Tips for Buying
Mix it Up:
Can't find what you need to make your room look like the Jetsons' pad? That may be a good thing. A room full of mid-century modern can feel very design-heavy and man-made. Think about breaking it up by mixing in a few older pieces or something handmade. Handwoven rugs from Wisteria or blankets from Pendelton's home collections might work well.
Enjoy the Hunt:
Don't mind used, but can't afford an antique's price tag? Remember your local thrift shops. One person's trash and all. It may be hard to imagine if you're mad for mid-century, but some people still find this stuff ugly. You'd be surprised what you can find at Goodwill or Value Village. Just keep in mind that you might not be buying a real vintage piece.
Easy Does It:
Like the design but can't afford the designer? Stores such as IKEA sell inexpensive furniture in the mid-century modern style.
